Another Fun Day with Mr. Bluefish. Today I had great weather and the wind was fairly calm for the most part until around 2 o’clock then it started to pick up a little.I was sure this was going to be my lucky fly for the day. Mr. Bluefish had other ideas however, when they eat a fly they like to keep it. The old ONE & DONE for this fly.

After the wind shifted into my face I went to get coffee and then a new location and managed another bunch of fish, One more keeper that measured 31″

So I headed out in the morning and saw a lot of Cobia and caught 10 keepers and my first two a 39″ and 43″. I had a couple that were larger but I had already got my limit. I was sight casting with a (2oz pink bucktail with a 6″ white curly tail) and a Shimano bait runner reel spooled with braid. Lot’s of people were catching fish caught all around me and managed to get a good series of pictures from beginning to end of the “Waterman” putting a couple of nice fish in the boat as well as a couple of others. I saw a bunch of dolphins, sea turtles and a couple of hammer head sharks. I covered 72 miles in 2-4 foot seas averaging 35 mph and burned 17 gallons. Back at the dock at 1300 hrs, cleaned my catch and made it to my house by 1730. Another Great day on the water. Here are my pictures from today.

Texas Topwater fishing thunderstorms and these fish used points, coves and bayous to ambush their prey. Early morning thunderstorms Saturday delayed our departure until 11:00 AM, but all 8-boats were able to land fish and we kept them on the water until 6:00 PM to make up for the late start. The Presentation Saturday after storms was a slow walk over flooded shorelines with a pearl skitter walker, tight to the bank, keying in on pods of mullet. Trout to 23″ were fooled with pumpkinseed TTK and pink fat boys lures. Overall 5-guys landed 40-trout and reds on this particular shoreline while under the guidance of Capt. Harold Dworaczyk. A couple of factors turned these fish onto a feed, one being a windward shoreline with bait stacked up, and the other, a receding tide following a major line of spring thunderstorms.

The good news, it’s Sunday morning and we’re already experiencing calm winds over San Antonio Bay. We’ll have the same 8-boats fishing today, so I will be updating their results and current weather conditions on Monday. The forecast for early next week looks outstanding, hopefully fishing will follow.

Fishing Report for Yesterday May 14, 2010 . My first stop was the n.jetty. 4-5 foot and only tried to anchor twice and then headed out Then I threw a croaker and something hit it and spooled 275 yards of braid before we could pull anchor and my guess is 5-7 foot shark. last year had a 5-1/2 footer do the same thing but we had the anchor up and after it in less than 30 secs. this thing hit the bait and ran hard with it. we looked for protected area but the only spot we found that was 1.5 ft visibility held no fish. My friend Paul caught this BU in 11 ft of water by the wells. 34 inches 26lbs.

I had a chance to wet my line on the beach so I got ankle deep and found a really strong cross current, that and a pretty big surf and then I noticed what looked like little fins between me and the beach coming up and down as the water receded from the wave action. I went and got my cast net to see what it was and didn’t take but one throw. It was a cow nose ray about 1 1/2- 2 ft wide. What made it interesting was looking up and down the beach they were working the whole beach. If your a shark fisherman you can bring a gig or cast net and fill your freezer for the year. I don’t think it was a freak one day thing because the boy holding one said they were there for a few days already. Still felt good to feel and smell the salt water.

Fishing Tampa Bay Florida for flounder can be fun and there are two species of flounder inhabit the bay area. The more common is the gulf flounder, which has three distinct dark spots on its back that distinguishes it from its cousin, the southern flounder.

Both species are found inshore on mud or sandy bottom areas, and near-shore around artificial or rocky reefs. The color pigmentation of its skin is dictated by the habitat. The darker the bottom, the darker the skin.

Anyway, caught these on Friday and thought I’d use this post and a link tool before I fillet them and eat them.
